Some Katakana uses
Hiragana and katakana were created at the same time, but for different reasons. Whilst Hiragana covers most of the Japanese language, Katakana has some specific uses. They are:
- Loan/Borrowed Words, such as soccer, baseball and Australia
- Onomatopoeia
- Just to look cool
- Non-Japanese People’s Names
Learning Katakana
Follow exactly the same process as learning Hiragana. Start top right on the chart, and learn them one column at a time. Generally speaking hiragana is more round and curly, whilst katakana is more sharp. Most katakana are different to hiragana, but there are some similar ones.
