Dear Parents and Students,
Welcome to Japanese in Years 2. This is an exciting stage of learning as many students already know basic greetings, a simple self introduction and some questions. We can therefore build on the language we have learnt in previous terms/years by adding important conversational phrases and more Q&A. If you are new to Japanese however, don't worry, as it will not take long to catch up.
In Term One the topic of study is Pets, including naming animals and describing them. This means we will be looking at colours and adjectives. Term Two will continue the animal theme. Students will be introduced to a graded Japanese reader 'I Am Handsome', and they will work on reading and writing hiragana. In Term 3 the focus is on meeting a new teacher at school. This will combine classroom language (e.g. sit down, be quiet), a self-introduction and some simple questions and answers. Term 4 is one of my favorite topics when we meet the Transport Otaku. Do you like cars, trains or a 'mamachari'? We will find out in Term 4.
