Welcome to Japanese in Year 3. This is an exciting stage of learning as most students already know basic greetings, a simple self introduction and some questions. We can therefore build on the language we have learnt in previous terms/years by adding important conversational phrases and more Q&A. The main focus in Term One at the start of the year is 'All About Me', with a special focus on numbers, such as ages, birthdays and calendars. In Term Two we will try to learn 'the top 25 must learn expressions'. These are useful as they appear in everyday conversation. We start Term 3 with a look at the Tokyo Olympics, and in particular Naomi Osaka, the Japanese tennis player. We will also focus on the Japanese National Anthem and other iconic aspects of Japan. In Term Four we will explore Haiku poetry and link this to kanji related to the topic of animals. We will then discuss some environmental issues through the book Gomi Detective. Throughout the year we will continue to learn the 'hiragana' script. Much will be presented through songs, in videos and during in-class conversation practice. Added to this will be cultural aspects about daily life in Japan.
