Dear Students and Parents,
There are several aspects of Japanese language and culture that will be the focus this year. Of course we will continue to build on previous years learning, reviewing songs, questions and our self-introductions. In Term 1 will focus on the verb shimasu, which means 'to do'. Students will go through he days of the week and talk about what they do on each day. Much will be presented through songs, in videos and during in-class conversation practice. In Term 2 we will revisit the self-introductions we memorized last year, but hopefully we can add more content now. To help us there are new levels such as 'Pitch Black'. In Term 3 we will start with the Tokyo 2020 Olympics and then move onto the topic of recycling. We have much to learn here, including kanji about nature. We will also learn about Haiku. In Term 4 we will read a book about Nutella (what is there not to like?!). As this is the last term in the Junior school Japanese program, students will also have the opportunity look at any aspect of Japanese culture they are interested in, such as anime, fashion, sport and music. This will be their time to shine. We will try to learn all the Hiragana so that students can explore the wonderful world of writing in Japanese. I love Hiragana and hope I can share this passion. There is a dedicated page for hiragana on this site.
